High Stop Light Doesn't Light - Bulb Warning Light On 850 1987

'94 850 sedan. My High Stop Light doesn't light and the bulb warning light comes on. Worked intermittently during the winter now out all the time. I reseated the connectors on the tail light assemblies and the tail light control module with no success. The bulb is good and no voltage to the socket. Any suggestions to what to check or try next??

You didn't go far enough. After removing and cleaning the bulbs and the socket holder, remove the housing which is jammed against the rear window. There are two spring tabs which are corroded. Sand them and apply a little WD-40. This may have to be repeated every 6 to 12 months.

Thanks to the responders. This is the problem. The contacts are pitted and I need to work on them some more. But a good start to solving the problem.

Due to heat from the bulb, the housings warp. The housing is 3 pieces. The cover, the upper section with bulb socket, and lower section that attaches to the hatshelf. Remove the cover. At the bottom of the housing there is a tab which releases the upper section of the housing. Lift the tab and slide the upper section foreward to release. Once removed, you will find metal contact tabs that complete the circuit between the housing halves. These tabs are often deformed from heat and/or corroded. Bend the tabs up on the lower half and down on the upper half, then sand them clean. This should get your lamp working again.
