I'd leave the MAF screen intact. There's probably so little restriction thee that it won't make any difference. As far as misadjusting the wastegate rod, there are posts on this board claiming it increases performance but I'd have to believe they were probably misadjusted or needing adjustment to bring the system up to spec in the first place.
I tend to agree with the information on TME's website. (tme.com) The ECU regulates manifold pressure by manipulating the wastegate. Therefore, it will try to compensate for any adjustment you make. If manifold pressure exceeds predetermined parameters the ECU shuts the engine off.
Sounds like the safest way to lots more power is a TME (IPD) ECU upgrade.
While on my soapbox I'll throw in two more cents. I've used K&N filters on many vehicles over the years and the biggest advantage is the ability to reuse them. Their claim of "straightening the airflow" would seem bogus, or at least of very minor consequence, when you consider how convoluted the intake system plumbing is in many vehicles.
