Q's on engine mount replacement and 60K miles tune up 850 1995

Fellow Brickers,
I've a '95 850 Turbo with 56K miles. The original rubber engine mount has been broken for quite some time and I plan to have it replaced when the car is it for the 60K miles service. I understand the original rubber mount is prone to fail. I am considering the IPD polyurethane mount as a replacement. Will this harder material transmit more engine vibration to the car? Will it cause any other side effect?

More question. What is included in the 60k service? I've already replaced the air filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires @ 40k miles.

I also plan to replace the timing belt at the same time. Although Volvo recommends replacement at 70k miles, my belt is 7 years old. The age of the belt worries me.

Last but not least, how much does the 60k miles service and timing belt change cost?

Thanks,
Kenneth

I just changed my mount on Monday. It is a 5 minute job with the IPD mount. The oem one will take a lot more work. I don't notice any extra vibration in the cabin at all. For 60K service, you can do most of it yourself, and just have them do the rough stuff. Timing belts etc, will be a big hassle without the experience. I wish I did more work on mine, the more i learn, the more I realize that it's not so difficult to do these things. Good luck and don't let them take you for a ride!!!

I noticed a slight increase in vibration with the ipd mount just after installation, but I got used to it quickly. Now I don't notice it at all. Some posters have noticed no change and others have removed the urethane mount because they felt a lot more vibration. I would recommend that you try it for $26 and install yourself and if you don't like it, have the OEM one installed. I have heard that installation of the OEM mount requires a press of some sort to press the new one into place.

I am not a big believer in 60K or 30K services because most of the items you can do yourself and save a lot of money. These cars are very easy to work on and I think doing your own maintenance makes it easier to diagnose problems. Get a Haynes manual and read the maintenance section. It walks you through what needs to be done. Also check out bay 13 on volvospeed.com for instructions. Save your repair money for the things you can't do yourself. I had my mechanic do the timing belt and it cost around $225 and included replacement of the serpentine belt. Prices will vary greatly based on where you live. Good luck.
