Dashboard Creak S70 1999

Hi Everyone,

I have an 1999 S70 GLT and I am constantly hearing a creaking noise from the dash on the passenger side. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem & what was done to fix this annoying noise! Is this a common problem with S70's??

Thanks
Tanya

    Dashboard Creak S70 1999

I recently replaced a VERY annoying SQUEAK. It's the light switch in the glove compartment - that little black "finger" that gets pushed in when the box is closed to turn the light off. Just sprayed good'ol WD40 right into that switch.

I had the dash creak for a while too, the dealer shoved some thin foam in between the windshield and the plastic piece that runs along it (between the dash and the glash). It came back when that foam fell out ;-). So I sprayed silicone spray all along that juncture and it's gone.

Now, I have the clicking and tapping from the sunroof. Sigh.

Anyone have annoying wind noise from the top of the windshield? On the highway it's quite loud.

Dashboard Creak - if glove box, easy repair V70-XC70 1999

If the problem is the relative movement of the glove box liner versus the dashboard, the repair is easy. Open the door and you will see some screws. Tighten them and the creaking should disappear. If it comes back, eventually you may need to use something like epoxy in the holes so that the screws stay tight.

    Tanya,

I've got a 99 V70 with the same problem: a horrible creak in the dash on the passenger's side. I've already attempted to get the local Las Vegas dealer to look at it, but they weren't very helpful. All they suggested is that I should try to wedge something between the dash and the firewall to prevent the dash from moving as that is what they would probably do to solve a problem of this type (that's an official response from the dealer). They also quoted me at least $1,200 (rock-bottom floor price) to diagnose the problem properly (not including any repair parts and labor).

Anyone else out there with this problem? Do we have a pattern here?

    -Dale

      Hi Dale,

I know exactly what you are going through!! This is ridiculous for a 'luxury' car to have this type of noise EVERY time you go over a bump. I have taken it to the dealer several times and have gotten no where. They keep telling me it is a problem encountered in the winter due to the expansion and contraction of the dash. Funny the weather is now warm & I am still hearing the same damn creaking. I have tried putting foam between the A pillar and the dash but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. I have called Volvo Canada and I will be pushing them to resolve the problem.....this is insane!!

    Dashboard Creak S70 1999

    Hi Tanya,

I am experiencing the same problem but I do not know if is the rattle from my glovebox or the dashboard. I am still under the manufacturer warranty but they told me that this was not covered. I am also trying to figure out a way for the passenger dash/glove box to stop creaking or rattling without taking apart the dash. I'm up to any other suggestions. This is driving me crazy!!!

      Kevin,

You may want to continue pestering your dealer about warrantee repair of this job. I know one guy who did get a similar rattle/creak repaired under warrantee, but I also know the dealers don't like tackling jobs of this nature. Don't let them blow you off; this is a warrantee job!!

The glovebox is easy. I bought a sheet of adhesive foam from the crafts department at WalMart, 8x11" black, maybe 1/8th thick. I cut a small piece off, and wrapped it around the latch bar of the glove box. That was 1.5 years ago, and it's still on there rattle free. The sheet costs $.99, and I could do it 100 times if needed from the same sheet.

    Dashboard Creak S70 1998

All of a sudden my S70 is creaking all over. The first one was the A-pillar where it meets the dash, easy fix with some real thin foam. Next the Sunroof liner, passenger side is rattling, same foam to fix. Now its the pasenger side dash. Its harder to isolate since your driving on the other side, but foam between the windshield and dash didn't help, so I'd be interested to see if anyone has a fix, short of taking the dash out!
