Hi:
My 98 V70 GLT (50K miles) just set the Check Engine light on Tuesday. The car is maintained far beyond the maintenance schedule and is never driven hard.
I had check engine light problems last fall, but those turned out to be oxygen sensor related. The check engine light had not returned since the sensors were replaced, that is, until Tuesday.
To try to save a bit of $$, I drove it over to AutoZone and had them pull the codes with their reader. The only code showing is P455, which in their guide shows "Evaporative Control System Leak". Yes, I know that some codes are Volvo proprietary, so their guide may not be right.
My gas cap is not loose - I double and triple check that every time. The fuel filler pipe does not have any significant gouges in it that would prevent a good seal with the cap. A quick check of the vacuum lines shows them to be OK ... except I haven't searched out the one behind the power steering pump yet. I did find a plug wire a little loose, but nothing else.
The only thing different on the day the code was set was that it was VERY hot that day ... around 90 degrees. Since the light hasn't turned itself off, there must be something that is not temperature related.
Any ideas?
1) Is the P455 code really the evaporative emissions system leak code, and
2) Anyone have other ideas for potential areas to look for?
Thanks in advance!
