Problems with Mirror Memory V70-XC70 2001

I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I want to get this problem solved.

There is clearly a problem with the mirror memory on 2001 XC's.

I have the problem and have heard the same problem described by others on this board.

I already had a software upgrade recently and it didn't fix it.

1) Has anybody had this problem and had it successfully corrected. If so, how?

2) Does this problem exist in 2002 XC's (i.e. has Volvo fixed it yet)?

This is a *safety* issue! My wife and I have had some frightening moments merging onto highways and realizing the mirrors were out of position.

One may argue that I should check my mirror positons before driving, but:

1) It's often hard to tell the mirrors are out of position until you need them.

2) The mirrors move out of position *for no reason* (i.e. I was driving the car with *my* mirror settings, locked the car with *my* remote, unlocked the car with *my* remote and subsequently found the mirrors out of position without anybody changing the mirrors, selecting a different memory postion or using a different remote.

This is worse that not having mirror memory--at least standard mirrors stay put and don't change on their own.

I paid for mirror postion memory and I expect it to work!

Problems with Mirror Memory V70-XC70 2001

I have had the same problem occur to my car when I had about 10,500 miles (I have 22,090 now). The problem was isolated to a faulty Driver's Door Module. But it took at least two tries to find it. CAUTION: There are at least 5 different types of DDMs, depending what week your car was produced. So, make sure that they do not just slap on a new DDM because it may not cure the problem if the right version is not installed and accompanied by the proper software for that version.

And it is not really a safety issue as you should be checking the mirrors constantly not when you need to merge/pass.

Hopefully, it will betaken care of!

Problems with Mirror Memory V70-XC70 2001

Thanks for the advice. I hope the service techs will know what they are doing.

Suppose your turn signal stopped working at random intervals without you knowing it, would you consider that a safety issue?

I do check my mirrors constantly (especially now), but we happen to live very near a highway that we use all the time and don't always get an opportunity to verify the mirror positions--if the mirrors *are* moving out of position on their own for no reason, I'm not sure there is any way to keep tabs on them...

I've taken to groping for the seat memory button every time I'm about to merge just in case the mirrors are out. I think that is absurd and an unecessary distraction when merging.
