Speaker swap possibility S70 1998

I am wondering whether or not it's possible to retrofit the S80 speakers into my 1998 S70. It seems, from just looking at the openings, that the speakers in the 4 doors, and on the rear deck, are all the same size as those in my S70. And since the S80 has 4x25 (4x50 optional) amplification it's very close to that of my SC-901 (w/ optional amp, not sure on power). Anyone done this? thought about it? any ideas?

Should be easier than installing aftermarkets, too, because they'll have the same wire connectors.

Anyone know about brackets? whether those are the same?

OH and one more thing, anyone know a way to remove the brackets from the speaker baskets in the doors? (Front door, specifically) It seems it should be easy, twist it about 20 degrees and it shouold be free. Problem is I can't seem to twist it at all!

Thanks,
Scott Silverman

    Speaker swap possibility S70 1998

personally i found that i got a HUGE upgrade from changing to a JVC sh99 head unit. It has super advanced burr brown 1702 24 bit convertors. Anyway being a audiophile at home i think the sound i get in my car now is pretty decent, for regular speakers. Stock 850. If you reall want to go insane you could get the dynaudio upgrade that was documented. however that is about a 1500 dollar investment. I really have to say its totally not worth putting the s80 speakers in your 70. If you want to keep your volvo head unit you could look into getting some mcintosh car amps for the volvo HU. The volvo amps are really reasonably depressing even the "premium" if you read the specs you will find a reasonably high distortion level.

Well personally, I would just go aftermarket, most speakers (that I looked at) had the same connectors as my Volvo speakers did. I have an 850 and the stock sound is great w/ the 8 speaker stereo system. Do you have the 8 or 6 speaker? Why were you wanting this upgrade? BTW you can get a much broader sound out of aftermarkets vs. OEM. Anyway good luck. ~Cody Julian

I have a SC-900 with the external amp and the stock T5 8 speaker system.

I can get the 8 speakers (more if I wanted, like the sub tweeters etc) from a 1999 S80 T6 w Dolby Premium for next to no money (less than new aftermarkets).

Basically, I'm wondering how easy a swap it will be, mounting locations most importantly.

      Thanks!
