How to remove door speakers? S40-V40

I am ready to upgrade my car speakers and I was wondering how I would remove the door speakers? Removing the speakers is probably the easy part I just need to know how to remove the "grill" from the door so I can access the speakers. Any advice or directions on how to do this?

Thanks,

Joe

    What kind did you get?

Has anybody tried the New sony Xplod speakers? I hear they are pretty good.

Just wondering what kind of speakers have been tried out there.

      Jorge,

I haven’t gotten any speakers yet but I am considering purchasing the Sony xplod speakers, pioneer premier series speakers, or some alpines. I haven’t thought about whether or not I will go for 2-way, 3-way, or some components.

So far I have changed the head unit to an Alpine 7875 (the head unit made a big difference even with the stock speakers), add an Infinity Basslink Subwoofer (the bass is much more fuller now), and changed the rear speakers to Kenwood's KFC-1387 3-way speakers (I have no complaints with them so far).

The next step for me is to either buy speakers for the doors or damping material for the panels to stop some of the vibrations that are being generated.

A tip for anyone who is interested: 2 major vibration problems are from the rear license plate and the center taillight. They are both pretty easy fixes with some thin foam or even some duct tape possibly. All you need is something a little soft to put between the surfaces so it doesn’t vibrate/rattle.

How to remove door speakers? S40-V40

        Joe,

Do you have an s or v 40? I am asking because i have a v40 and was wondering where the subwoofer was placed. I was wondering if it can fit on the rear where there is space for two speakers or is it on one of those extra boxes?
Also do you have an amp for the subwoofer?

        Thanks for the info

        Jorge

          Jorge,

I have an S40. The subwoofer I have has a built in amplifier, so all I had to do was supply it power from the battery and splice the rear speakers. Lucky for me this subwoofer unit is small enough so that it fit in the back left corner of the trunk, the rear most corner. It is tucked nicely so that I can still get at the spare tire, the lid opens as it normally does and I still have adequete space availble in the trunk.

How to remove door speakers? S40-V40 2000

    Joe

I have replaced the door speakers in my 2000 S40 almost within 6 months of new because the OEM speakers broke. Bad solder job at the factory. Different story.

When you do remove the speakers from the door, the spacer needs to be kept that is glued to the OEM speakers. I purchased speakers from Crutchfield that are great, BUT if I didn't use the spacer the speaker magnet would go into the door cavity too far. Maybe your speakers won't be as deep, but at least keep the spacers until you deem it OK to toss them.

This is assuming that your car is a MY2000 like mine too.

    Good Luck

    Miker

Grilles are just clicked in place.

Push the base of the grille towards the front of the door and at the same time tilt it outwards.

    That should do it..

    Bye, Arno.
