Auto Gearlever Knob breaking up 850

Can anyone tell me how to remove the gearlever knob on a 94 850 auto? I nned to change it for something else as the rubber is breaking up,, but I can't figure out howe to get it off.

Done it ! It took every ounce of my strength and I almost went through the roof when the damned thing borke loose.

Manufactured a new knob, identical to the old one in shape, out of Epoxy Putty, and painted it matt black.

Stradle the consol, and pull up HARD! It may destroy the nylon washers that keep it in place, and if so, you have to get another.

I think I read somewhere that you just grab it and pull up HARD.
Surely someone out there in brickland knows for sure. I hope you find out!
