Question re: 850 spoilers 850

I'm in the market for an 850, and have a question regarding the spoilers.

Did some 850 models come with spoilers straight out of the factory, or were all spoilers subsequently added to the cars by the owners? If out of the factory, are we talking about particular years/models/turbos/non turbos?

The reason I ask is that I'm not a big fan of spoilers. Don't know why...I'm just not. So if I buy an 850 with a spoiler and find that I absolutely don't like it, can it be removed without damaging the car?

Thanks.

Question re: 850 spoilers 850

I used to prep 850's for sale. One of my shopmates used to install factory spoilers for them. It consisted of pressing them down with double stick tape at each point that touches the trunk and there are clips that screw on the sides for added holding. The wires also come up the side. There shouldn't be any holes to speak of as volvo basically relied on the double stick tape. I would imagine turbo's with the factory installed are the same.

Question re: 850 spoilers 850

The turbo factory spoiler looks like it's clipped at the trunlk lid at each side and could be removed by unscrewing. But sadly, it does look as if there is an attachment point in the center, which leaves a hole in the metal. The wiring is led in with a plastic conduit from the side, so that's also removable.

Spoilers on road cars are a bit sad, but this one isn't too offensive.

Question re: 850 spoilers 850

Recently we purchased an '85 base sedan with a spoiler. The spoiler has grown on me. It makes a great refrence point when you back up.

I do not worry about things like a spoiler when I go looking for a car.

Finding a sound, well maintained car that strikes your fancy is the most important consideration.

Question re: 850 spoilers 850

The spoilers that you see on the 850's were factory options. They can be removed, but you will need to fill holes in trunk, sand, and repaint. Much work, and difficult to match worn factory paint. You can see what the factory kit is like if you follow this link.

My recommendation, look for one without a spoiler, you will probably pay less and definitely have less headache.

Question re: 850 spoilers 850

I think they were optional on virtually all models and are probably screwed into the trunklid so removing them would probably be difficult. Recommend you just look for one without it.
