Hi. My 850 is having a strange problem. When the car has been used for a while then turned off, it has a hard time starting again. Sometimes it will just crank, but not start. Any ideas?

When was the last time wires/cap/rotor/plugs were changed? If you've got a good strong spark, then it could be fuel-related (intermittent fuel pump outage).

All those little variables were just changed. I have always taken it to a indy Volvo guy that is VERY good and very low price. When the problem starts... it is like the car wants to start, but never kicks. but this only happens on occasion. I have noticed it diring the middle of a long trip, after driving 300 miles, stoppin to fill up with gas, and then takes a while for it to start.

Wifes car had a similar problem and it was a Crankshaft Position Sensor. The car was hard to start when cold and easier to start when warmer, but still not a quick starter when warm. the sensor had to do with the Fuel being injected at the right time. plenty of spark but imporper fuel injection timing.

Finally the day came when it would not start at all and we had it towed in and they replaced the sensor nad starts fine now.
