Fricken Brakes Follow UP

I took the car to the dealership for a completely unrelated item. Check engine light went on. Dealer discovered that it was an oxygen sensor of some sort that costs $250 to replace. Dealer said that it will not affect the performance of the car, but the service light will come back on after reset. Rather than take the chance, I decided to have the part replaced. Most of the charge is labor the part is only $23. I was floored by the labor charge!!!

In addition, I also had the service tech check out the brakes and low and behold I need a new control arm on the left side...another $300 bananas with alignment. You guys were right.

Well I hope I don't have future problems with the car. Other than the little stuff, the car has been great.

Thanks again.

A $23 dollar O2 sensor! Please tell my your dealership! I think you've misread your work order. These are around $150 Can.

They were right about it coming back on if they reset it, but they weren't right about it not doing damage. A failed O2 sensor can cause other O2 sensor to fail, the catalytic convertor to be damaged, it WILL decrease performance (ask anyone that has driven their car right after an O2 sensor replacement, or have cleaned out their old one), and it will decrease your fuel mileage. This is a pretty important component in the emissions and engine management system.
