Do A/C Sealants REALLY work? 850

From taking my 93 850 to an indy shop, they said there's a leak in evaporator. I do not want to spend $900 to get it fixed. How good are the sealants? Can one get by for a summer using a sealant? Are they easy to use? Which is the best one? thanks

Do A/C Sealants REALLY work? 850

I have 96 850 turbo. same problems. I tried a cheapo sealer in a small can the last time I recharged. didn't work. I just recharged again today. I haven't seen the Interdyne or whatever for $12, nor have I heard unequivacobly that the cynaoseal (sp?) works.

Resign yourself to the pain of having to keep adding 134 every few weeks if its really hot. IN kc we only need AC from late April to early October... luckily I get away with 1/2 year of not worrying about this

Do A/C Sealants REALLY work? 850

just to let everybody know: MY A/C FINALLY WORKS! I know I've been on many threads this summer. But after jumping my compressor to the battery and putting in 3 small cans of Interdynamic sealant, i then added Interdynamics combo: air, oil, sealant and found cold air coming out.
HOWEVER, what I also found was that My A/C switch works the opposite way!! When it's OFF, the compressor turned on. And when it's ON, as I've presumed along the way, it never ran!!
thanks for all who have helped me...

I had a slow leak in my AC system and a recharge would last about 6-9 months, I tried the Interdynamics sealer a couple of months ago so I can't give you an answer for another 6 months.

Some are really sold on this product called CryoSeal. You may want to check out their website.

Do A/C Sealants REALLY work? 850

Last summer my 850 was diagnosed with the dreaded evaporator leak that the dealer would fix for $1500 (they used the fluorescent dye recharge kit). It doesn't get hot enough in SD to warrant that kind of money. So I added 1.5 cans of r134 last summer and it lasted about a week or two. This summer I used a sealer by Interdynamics (got it at Pep Boys for about $12) and recharged with r134 again. I figured that what could it hurt to try a sealer and see how long it lasts - I'm a scientist so I've got to experiment. I did this in early May and it's just now starting to peeter out. So maybe I've partially fixed the leak. All that I can tell you is that the recharge lasted longer this summer with the sealer than it did last summer without. I'm debating trying it again this summer or next. Probably depends on how many hot weather drives I have left in the summer.

    JMO - good luck!
