OK, so I've been looking at a 1997 850 (not turbo) sedan with 85k on it. The guy wants $8500, which seems to be below what those pricing sites say. All the same, I'm wondering what the users of this forum feel it's worth. Also, on those cars, what sort of issues should I be looking out for when I examine it? Thanks in advance.

Bring it into a Volvo shop and have a pre-purchace inspection done. It can save you alot of unexpected headaches in the future not to mention big $$$.

I would try to get all the service records on the car....or at least the service booklet to see if all the "required" services were done. I would also spend a few bucks, and run the VIN through CarFax.
If you get the service records, look to see if there were any unresolved issues, or many repeet trips to the dealer for the same problem. You can also check to see if there was ever a problem w/the AC....like the dreded evap. replacement(if it has been replaced and the AC works fine...no prob, but if the AC is not blowing ice cold air, it could be a $$$ problem). The one other thing I would be sure to check is if the AT(if it is a AT)has ever been flushed.....not just a quick change of the fluid(that only gets out a quart or two), but a compleat flush.

    good luck,
