TRACS/ABS - info needed 850 1997

I know that this subject has been covered ad infinitium. Please bear with me for a moment or two and share the wealth of info or opinion that is out there.

I have a '97 854 GLT in excellent condition. ABS/Tracs light came on while driving on Interstate 64 in WV (read - slightly improved logging road!!). I am assuming that the error lies in the control module (cracked soddering 2ndary to time and horrible roads).

Now the questions/options:
1. Can I obtain a ABS/Tracs brain from a junkyard and attempt replacement (?? plug/play technology). How to find a junkyard that might have one intact and in good shape

2. What can I expect the stealer, sorry - dealer to charge for fixing the problem/replacing the module.

3. I have the VIP warranty. To the best of my recall this particular part is NOT covered by this less than helpful warranty - Correct??

Thanks in advance for all the advice and opinions. All the Best

Andrew T. Watson

I am not 100% sure, but I think the TRACS/ABS unit is covered under the VIP comprehensive plan, but not the basic plan. There are quite a few "Volvo VIP" extended warrentee plans.....so I think it depends on what plan you have.

      Steve,
I think that I have the basic VIP plan. I re-read the contract and it does not list the ABS/Tracs unit or any similar sounding component. Thanks for the info.

I have the basic plan also, I believe. I had to have this module replaced back in January, and it cost about $450 total.

You should probably have the dealer check it out, to make sure it isnt just a wheel sensor that is actually clogged up with dirt, or something.
My Tracs/Abs unit needs replacing (so the dealer says), after only 40k km on my '96 850. It will cost in excess of 700 dollars Canadian. Ouch :(
