speed sensor 850 1995

My check engine light is on. I read the code from the OBD II and it said speed sensor. Where is it located and can you check it to see if it works?

Teleman:
My understanding is that there are two (2) speed sensors on the 850.
1- Engine speed sensor
2- Vehicle speed sensor

The "engine speed sensor" detects engine rpm's and measures it off of the flywheel. (If it fails, the car will not run.)

The "vehicle speed sensor" mounts onto the transmission near the firewall, on the driver's side of the car. This is the one I think I need to replace on my 850, as I am getting funny shifts with my auto-transmission, as though the trans can no longer detect what speed the car is at.

Hope this helps.
