no brake lights??!!?? 850 1995

I just noticed last night that none of the brake lights light up. I checked the fuse and it is good, and the little bulb indicator on the dash does not light up to indicate a bad bulb (it has in the past, so I assume it still works as it should). Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?

Go for the brake light switch. There are 2 under the pedal. 1 has 2 wires and a vacuum hose. It is for cruise only. The other is a 4 wire switch with 2 functions. 1 side triggers the gear shift lock. The other side triggers the brake lights. It IS possible for 1 side to work (shift lock) and the other side to fail(brake lights). Brake pedal position sensor in the booster is for ABS only. Has nothing to do with brake lights.

Sounds like the brake position sensor under the pedal. Should be under 50 dollars to fix.

I just checked the Haynes manual and it says there is a brake light switch under the pedal--is that what you are referring to? thanks

do you mean the brake pedal position sensor? I just replaced that about 5k ago--it's in the power brake booster in the engine compartment? are there more than one? thanks in advance

Hey Mouseface,
I'll lay good money on it being the rear integrity sensor. If the brake light switch is at fault you will not be able to get the car out of park. Check the switch first and if it's ok, then test the sensor. Location: left rear under floor board. It's grey in color. Hope you have a wiring diag.
