Poll-your choice: 1) XC AWD 190 HP or 2) T5 236 HP 3) GLT 190 HP V70-XC70

Which of the three cars would you rather have...Years 1999 and newer. Take into consideration the usual maintenance, styling, amenities, etc. Thanks for your vote.

There is no competition; T5 with manual transmission or a GLT if money's short. XC looks terrible, is problem prone, and requires frequent donations to your local dealer's retirement fund.

I'LL TAKE A #2 (T5 236 HP) WITH A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF BRAKE PADS AND TRANSMISSIONS. OH! THROW IN A FEW ABS MODULES AND ENGINE MOUNTS AS WELL .

You don't want the well-recited problems of #1 (can you say, 'bevel gear?'). And why get the GLT when you can get more HP in a reinforced 2.3L engine (sodium valves, crown forged pistons, lined cylinder walls)?

      2) T5 236 HP V70-XC70

Sorry about the empty post...The computer hiccupped.

I've got a question for davidm

I've seen HP ratings for the S70 T5 engine(B5234FT) from 236 up to 247. I've also seen the HP ratings for the 850 T5R at 247. After doing some research, it seems as thought the T5 and the T5R have identical specs. Can I assume the actual HP on the T5 is 247?

I've followed some of your posts and it seems that you have a lot of Volvo related knowledge so I was hoping you might be able to help me out here.

By the way, ABS/TRACS lights on a daily basis, check engine light about once a week(MAP/Barometric Pressure Sensor - P0108 I think)and my low fuel light comes on far too often - Not problematic, just driving too much.

I believe the minor horsepower discrepancies are ECU related, but at least in some cases the 236HP is ever so slightly faster 0-60 than the 247 (as in S70T5 vs S60T5). Torque, weight, and other characteristics have an influence, to say nothing of the driver.

        >By the way, ABS/TRACS lights on a daily basis
        Uh oh.

        > check engine light about once a week(MAP/Barometric Pressure Sensor - P0108 I think)
Did you get codes? You're barking up the right tree - the CE light comes on whenever any kind of fault is detected in the emissions control system, which would include intake and fuel charging components. We should have 10 kinds of CE light to really be useful. Or the OBD readout should be right on our dash, telling us the problem in plain Swedish. Ja?

        >and my low fuel light comes on far too often - Not problematic, just driving too much.
In a good car, how is it possible to drive too much?
