Removing/changing wood dashboard trim 850

I'm about to buy a 1995 volvo 850, but I am turned off by the yellow wood dash trim. I see on ebay there are kits to replace it with darkwood trim for about 100 bucks, but I would rather just have the black trim w/o wood grain.

Assuming that it was dealer installed option, does anyone know if I can just rip off the woodgrain and expect the black plastic to look good (after a good cleaning)?

Search for "volvo 850 dash"

Do you want to change from dark to light or v/v? I have the tan interior with yellow-ish wood trim; I think it is a kind of ugly combo.
