*** Front Sway Bar Bushings*** 850 1995

Has Anyone replaced the bushings on the sway bar on 1995 - 1997 850 ?
I know on the 93-94 bushings are replaceable. On The later models Volvo suggest repalcing the entire ball with vulcanized bushings. What size did you use ? I am thinking about using Poly urethane bushings. IPD sells bushings for their bars but the bars are bigger than the stock bars. Any input appreciated . Thanks

Front Sway Bar Bushings OR LINKS? 850 1995

The bushings were only a problem in '93, early '94 850s until they changed the design. The newer type, like yours typically is never a problem BUT the links then wear out causing a knocking noise and it's even more of a problem starting with '98 X70s on up to present (STILL).
Are you sure that there's anything wrong with your '95 sway bar bushings because if not, leave it alone because they're not the same as the earlier type and not as easy to replace (part of the complete sway bar if ordered from Volvo).
If you're hearing any knocking noise at slow speeds turning slightly or over slight bumps, it's more likely a link problem. Grab each and try moving them to see if you feel any freeplay, if so, THAT's your problem.

Front Sway Bar Bushings OR LINKS? 850 1994

So we have a slightly different problem with our 94 850 glt. it's peculiar because the sometimes when the brakes are applied firmly, there is a vibration that is carried thru the chassis of the car. It is not caused by warped rotors. The speed is usually 30-40 mph.

On the ipdusa.com site it lists their "Bushing for Front Control Arm" it says that If you’re experiencing brake shudder, make sure to check the bushings on the front control arms. When worn they will allow a vibration from the brakes to be felt through the frame. 2 bushings are needed per arm.

could this be caused by worn bushings?

thanks

Do you have the cutout shims on your rear brake pads? They fixed a vibration I had that sounds like the one you describe, and has been mentioned as a fix by others posters here. They are about $10/set at the dealer IIRC.
