Hard start --what's goin on?? 850

Our '96 base 850 with 126K has not been wanting to start lately. It just cranks and cranks then begins to flood (you can smell the gas). Eventually it will fire up after a few tries. This mostly happens when it is hot outside or if the engine is warm. The computer shows no codes and the car is well maintained. Is this vapor lock? Any suggestions?

Vapor lock is when no fuel is able to get into the engine because it vaporizes. Vapor lock is rare to non-existent in electric fuel pumped, fuel injected cars.

Because your car is flooding, fuel delivery in not the issue. Cam position sensor, a faulty coil are good places to look.

Hmmm. Sounds like the symptoms of a failing fuel pump relay (typical in 80's and early 90's cars). Wonder if this car has one....?

IF it only happens when the car is warm, I would cool the camshaft sensor with some ice and see if stops it. The sensor is close to the distributor cap towrds the driver on the head. In other words heat the car cool sensor and see if tha helps or not

Ignition coil? Distributor cap?
Battery dying? Extremly used plugs? 126k is quite a bit, might require new electrical components.
