Oil Leak between tranny and firewall...Help? 850

I search the archives and couldn't find anything concrete as to what it could be.

Anyway, there's a small oil leak behind the tranny that drips oil onto the chassis cross bar (I believe the steering mechanism is bolted on top of it). I'm not finding much (if any) oil on the ground when I park, but looking under the car, I can see the subframe has oil on it.

I got under the car and checked, but I can't really see where the oil is coming from.

Any idea as to what is leaking?

Oil Leak between tranny and firewall...Help? 850

    I had similar problem:

    1. No oil found on the ground.
    2. Left side under the chassis was covered with oil.

The mechanic used a die to look for oil leak and concluded that it was the rear main seal. A rear main seal leak fix costs about $1000 (13 hours of labor + seal $24 and other minor stuff). I was loosing about 1 quart/1000 miles. If you do not loose that much oil or more I would wait a year or two and get my money worth by driving the car. It is your call.

I hope your problem is not the rear main seal.

        See http://volvospeed.com/Repair/turborepairline.htm
for oil return line repair. I think the instructions
might help determine if this is the problem (pretty common
        problem).
