S4 in place of C70?.... C70

I'm trying to begin to look for a new car, possibly to purchase in the next couple of years, though if the right thing comes along at the right time, maybe before. I'm considering (primarily) a Volvo C70 hpt 5 speed coupe, or an Audi S4 (6 speed). Can anyone give me at least 3 reasons why I should choose the Swede over the German? I'd really appreciate it.

    S4 in place of C70?.... C70

I have driven a C70 (and want ONE) it is very much a quality car and will out last an S4...The S4 is OK - but if Audi is anything like Audi of the past you will be spending much money on parts when they fail and they will fail often if history repeats itself.

The C70 engine has vanadium alloy steel cylinder liners and is an inline engine.

Does't the S4 have Bi-turbo V6 ? When's the last time you have seen an Audi with over 400,000 miles on the original engine and transmission? (I've seen many a Volvo with that mileage OR more)

I've owned one Audi 5000 - piece of crap.

    S4 C70

I believe they're down to just producing the C70 convertible, not the C70 coupe any more, at least for the US market. That would exclude the C70, which is also based on the past generation and now obsolete SVC70 platform.

The S4 is a LOT faster and handles a lot better than the C70. If you want to keep your car for longer than the warranty, I'd also advise against the S4. If you lease or trade frequently it doesn't matter.

      Phil -
I'm planning on buying a 2000 model of either - not a new one, and I'm planning on keeping it for somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 years, at LEAST. I like to hold on to my automobiles; I get attached. So, yes, the warranty would be running out. Now what do you think, in light of the expired warranty; S4 or C70? Thanks for your advice.

To me this is a no brainer...go for the S4.

I have driven the A4 and find it to be a quality car. Don't have the same view for the C70.

I think there is still one more year for the coupe ... then just convertibles. There some good info on it in another post.

I see lots of Audis, but hardly any C70s. I like this reason for a C70!

I have owned an 87 240, a 93 850, and now a 99 C70. I feel they are only about as reliable as any other car that I have owned. My 850 now has 125000 mi on it, and I don't feel like it's going to last much longer. All cars have had the same annoying things go wrong with them ... switches, lights, door hinges, brakes, windows, etc.
