help it wont start! 850 1993

Ok,

I get the car saturday and drive it home 250 miles. Does great. I start cleaning on it saturday evening the doors are open (courtesy lights) no radio on. The car sits sunday monday tuesday I start it for a minute on wednesday then thursday I go to do the same and it doesn't seem to have enough juice to start (slow crank) I get my charger and put it on and wait til it says charged (only takes 20min-30min) I try to crank it and the same slow turns. All my interior lights were off so no drain there, the AC is off, lights turn themselves off but were off anyway. doors were all closed and lights off...................what happened, I have read a couple people crankin and crankin and friggin up their motor

Any suggestions?

help it wont start! 850 1993

I would assume that the radio needs a code by now? So, I would suggest removing the battery cables, rleaning them and the posts, put them back on, check the water level in the battery, and charge again, like over night. If it still cranks slow, it's the battery or starter.. Batteries Plus will test the charging system and the battery for FREE!.... Sounds like a battery to me...

    Problem solved 850 1993

Ok when I first cranked it it did fire and sputter and stop. thinking i didn't engage the starter long enough i tried it again but not enough juice to crank it.

I waited the hour and cranked for a long time, the engine was turning over faster and faster and faster then was firing but not catching. it finally fired and started then stalled. ok close... so i tried cranking and cranking it was slow then speed up faster then started to fire and started then hummed like Inga in a hottub.

Did I have some kind of vapor lock? Battery power wasn't the problem the longer i cranked the faster it got.

curious as to the quick solution in a similar situation (bound to happen to me)

btw took her for a ride about 10 miles and back to her spot, did great and started right back up!

I waited awhile then tried jumping it with the battery from my jeep (jeep battery was out of the jeep so no super charge during start attempt) seemed a little faster but no ignition. ossibly flooded from repeated cranks? Am charging everything and waiting an hour.

... wont start! Lawn mower syndrome? 850 1993

Is it possible that you ran your 850 without warming it up?

"Lawn mower syndrome" occurrs when you move the car to gain access to the lawn mower. The car's valves stick open and the car will not start due to a loss of compression.

It happened to me when I moved my car to wax it. If you do a search, you will find many postings on the topic.

Personally, I think that the car's valves warm up a bit during a short run and stick in the still cold head. Now in our household, we never start an 850 without letting it get to operating temperature.

A dealer will air the engine out, put in new spark plugs, and change the oil and filter. (Possible oil dilution.)

The first aid approach is to hold the gas pedal on the floor and crank and crank the engine until it starts. You do not release the pedal or the starter, as each will cause more fuel to be introduced into the engine.

Pull the plugs and see if they are fouled. If they are not too bad, leave them out for a while and charge the battery. Put the plugs back in and try to start the car tomorrow.

      Good luck
