Climate control problem V70-XC70

OK-98V70R AWD with the climate control system. My 2 indicator lights for cabin air and noAC are blinking which means a problem according to the manual. What I find is that the passenger side vents are blowing much warmer air than the drivers side vents. Any ideas on what is on the fritz that I can replace it as opposed to going to the dealer? Today I could hear the vent doors in the passenger area "moving" when the error lights would cycle on! Advice?

You'll have to go to a dealer or somewhere where they have a scan tool to read the fault code(s) and take it from there. There are several possibilties as to what can go wrong so w/o knowing what codes exist, anyone here will just be guessing.

I had a similar problem on my '98 V70AWD. There was a defective stepping motor in the ECC system. It was a warranty repair (covered by my extended warratny by WarrantyGold.com) to the tune of $237.50. They didn't have to take out the dash, but I understand it was a pain in the butt job anyway.

Had the same problem recently and Doug's description nailed it. Fan wasn't spooling up to the necessary speed required by the system, so it shuts down. May have been accumulation of dust causing resistance. Regardless, anticipate +/- $275 for repair.

rocktbox-my fan on Auto mode seems to boot up fine! Could it be I need to change the pollen filters? All I know is that I have the problem when the air temperature in the car is over 70 degrees and I need A/C. Blows nice and cool on the drivers side but semi warm on the passenger side with both control knobs set to the same temperature! Is it time for a no brainer Toyota Camry so I could be "bored to death" due to just changing oil on it for 10 years before something breaks?
