Clattering in RH wheel well S80 1999

99 S-80T6 with 70K clattering sound coming from RH wheel well when first driven in a.m. As it warms up, noise goes away but car feels as if something is loose when hitting a bump such as a lane marker. I've jacked it up twice, removed the wheel assy, gave close visual inspection, shook and moved things but can't find anything. Ball joints replaced at 24K, another 99 gremlin? Any ideas?

    I have the exact same symptom on a '95 850, so I'm interested in diagnostics also.

    John H - Your reply to the suggestion about strut mounts was ambiguous. Did you mean that they looked OK, or that they were the problem? How did you do the checking, either way?

        I had the same problem. When I hit a bump or detent in the road. The dealer found the noise coming from the right front strut. The tech. stated the stut was operating correctly, but was noisy( crunching sound). The car had 57K.
