Turbo oil leak into intercooler air pipe & turbo exterior 850 1996

I'm looking for information on the cause & repair solution for my 850 leaking Turbo. I noticed oil drips in my garage and upon inspection found oil on the turbo body. The oil return line looks okay (too bad this could have been an easy fix for me), but there's evidence of oil in the top intercooler air pipes (oil at the hose clamps), and once in a while I get oil drips on the exterior of the turbo unit. FYI - The car has 99,000 miles.

Anyone have any suggestions or advice? I may have to take it to the dealer (150 miles away) but would at least like to know something before I do that.

Thanks,
Ed

Oil in the intercooler is normal. Some oil is drawn past the turbo seals.
If you look inside the intake hoses they are covered with a layer of oil
(a bit also pools right at the turbo if you take off that hose).

The oil accumulates in the intercooler. The intercooler has a small
hole drilled in the bottom for the oil to leak out (or get blown out
on boost). You can drop the front air damn (black plastic thingy,
2 10 mm screws on either side drop it) and see the hole. The inside
bottom of the air damn will have a pretty good oil spot on it, too.
If too much accumulates it drips onto the driveway.

I would only be concerned if you see blue smoke from the exhaust indicating
a seal failure or a lot of oil around the turbo.

Thanks for the detailed information Ray N! What a relief to know it's not a problem.
