Differences Between Models 850

Hi There. First time post, as I'll be looking for a new ride in a few weeks.

I've looked over past posts and picked up some hints. Can you tell me the difference between models? I'd like a turbo, and $$ dictates I stay in mid-90's. GLT doesn't necessarily have a turbo? Did the base 850 come with a turbo? Were some turbo's light pressure and some full pressure? I saw some specs for a 94' turbo at 222hp.

Currently in an 88' Saab 900T and need more doors and the wagon would work well.

Thanks!

I have a 94 855 Turbo. Love it. IMHO, wagons are definitely better looking and you can't argue their superior utility.

Good luck,

GLT doesn't necessarily have a turbo?

No, '93-96 850 GLTs were non turbo. '97 850 GLTs and '98-on SV70 GLTs have a low-pressure turbo.

Did the base 850 come with a turbo?

No.

Were some turbo's light pressure and some full pressure?

Yes.

I saw some specs for a 94' turbo at 222hp.

About right for the high pressure turbo, earlier years badged "turbo" later years "T5". SV70 T5 claimed 236hp and "R' models were 247hp. No turbos with manual transmissions in the US until the '98 SV70 T5.
