Check engine light showing. Indy mech ran it on his generic OBD computer and came up with a code: P-117117. He can't translate, and I'm over 100 miles from a Volvo dealer. Only recent known glitches--replaced battery a month or so ago, and car now occasionally drops rpm sharply for a second or so right after being started cold. Educated guesses, humorous asides, or ribald comments, anybody?

    EZ Link OBD II scanner just arrived. Gives code as P1171, but does not give translation into English. Volvo not listed in the internal Config list as a supported vehicle.

      Let us know if you find out what was the problem with the vehicle. You might want to try empire's post suggestion about the MAF.

    Thanks, all. I have ordered an EZ Link code scanner a week or so ago, but it hasn't arrived yet. Looks like it'll come in real handy when it gets here.

    Probably P1171, relates to long term fuel trim problem. I just had the same thing occur.
    Car would idle poorly, surging up and down, check engine light on. I replaced the MAF sensor (volvo part about $205, install about five minutes). Problem solved. Volvo dealer wanted to replace the throttle module, but I decided to replace the MAF first. Lucky guess, I suppose. Car has 59K miles, 1999 S70 AWD.

    The code you are referring to might be P1171. It's usually a letter in the front followed by 4 digits, especially on the 1999 models and up which runs on OBD-II. This code come up on my 1999 C70 about a month ago. The guy translated it as ROTOR SENSOR FAULT, but somehow it seems like nobody knows exactly what this is (i've already been to 3 non-dealer volvo places shops).

    When I posted this on Brickboard a while back ago, someone said that it might be the oxygen sensor going out. Have you every changed the oxygen sensor?? Well anyways, I don't feel a driving difference in the vehicle...so I'm just ignoring the light. When I start feeling something, I'll look into it further.

    There is no code, P117117.

    There is a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0117...

    DTC Definition: Engine Coolant Temp Circuit Low Input
