Brake fluid on CV Boot - Concern? 850

I ally got brake fluid on a CV Boot. I know it can ruin paint, but is there any concern with brake fluid degrading rubber parts?

Anything I should do?

Thanks!

Not to be a smart ass but failing to stop can ruin lots of parts. If there's brake fluid on a CV boot you have a leak. Either a hose, fitting, caliper or loose bleed screw. Best advice is to find it while you can.

OK, I'll fess up. I was replacing brake pads, and compressing a caliper. I didn't remove enough brake fluid beforehand, and it spilled out of the master cylinder.

OK, I'll fess up some more. It was on our other car, a Honda Odyssey. But it was the Brickboard and prior Volvo repairs that gave me the confidence to tackle the job.

So there's no brake fluid leakage, just ally spilled fluid during a pad replacement.

Thanks for your concern and advice.

Use lots of water and wash it off. It's glycol based, so dissolves in water.

Brake fluid will eat through several types of rubber too. The rubber types used in the brake system itself are specifically selected to withstand it, but I wouldn't be too sure about the other rubber parts on the car.

Bye, Arno.
