VERY POOR throttle reponse when moving only----indie stumped 850 1996

My 850R with 134k suddenly developed a very noticable delay in throttle response. It's only when moving, either rolling at 5mph or 40mph, and I accelerate at about 1/4 throttle or more. From a stop, it responds normally. It feels like the car is deciding what to do for 1-2 seconds and then it acts by increasing the throttle and/or kicking the car down a gear. When it does finally respond, it takes off like a bat out of hell. Instant boost from the turbo(not necessarily full boost), front wheels squeal and it seems to accelerate and shift fairly normally. However, it's those 1-2 seconds that are so critical. Just about enough time to get real scared by the on-coming traffic. This is a new problem. So I changed the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Not because they were old, but because that was my first attempt at the solution. The problem persists. I'm stumped. My indie is stumped. Even the dealer, whom I despice is stumped.

I don't see any posts in the archives about this. I hope I'm not the first/only brick owner to experience this. Where do the wise sages at "The Board" think I should start my trouble shooting? Any other 850 owner's with a similar problem?

Please help.

Steve J.

VERY POOR throttle reponse when moving only----indie stumped

Check and see if the turbo gage responds at all when you step on the gas and the engine does not respond. You can check in the back of a Haynes manual for fault codes and start there.

Is this the FIRST Documented case of 'VERY POOR throttle reponse when moving'? 850 1996

There is only a slight increase in engine RPM when the accelerator is engaged while moving....2 seconds later the turbo spools up and off she goes. The throttle boby has been cleaned by the dealer and the car is not throwing any codes. We're still stumped.
