I would echo David's comments. Also, have it checked out by a mechanic familiar with this model. Swaybar endlinks fail early but that's a relatively cheap fix. Check for regular oil changes (preferably synthetic). The red calipers and drilled rotors are aftermarket items.

Welcome to the club! If you've got the five speed, you could make a case for 'top-of-the-line.' This is a fast car...at least until the first turn, when FWD understeer kind of puts a damper on the fun.

My red calipers cost me $3.99, but I haven't made the covers that will make them look like Brembos or Porsche Big Reds. That will cost me about $20. Of all the things I've done with my car, painting my stock calipers with Ford red engine paint garners a lot of winks, nods and high-fives. Go figure.

The real deal red calipers will cost you $2-3K. I'd consider slotted rotors over drilled if you want the hi-performance look without the groaning sound of drilled rotors. (I took my drilled rotors off after 500 miles because I didn't like the noise; my oem rotors were never a problem and work great.) Of course, you'll want to upgrade the brake lines to braided titanium.

If you want a real performance enhancement with a benefit you'll notice, consider a front strut tower brace. Volvo's oem is an alloy for $150, IPD's a harder steel-based construction for $250. They'll improve turn in by keeping the inside wheel on the pavement. (But be warned, some owners have commented that their dashboards developed a few new squeaks....or at least they began noticing them.) You could add Ecode lenses ($250) and HIDs ($400) for better night vision.

I love my S70T5SE....can't figure out why they changed to the frumpy S60-look after they developed this winner. (I'd like to get some of the S60's traction and stability gear, though.)

    Things to watch for:
ABS/TRACS control module (especially 1998) - pc board cracks
Headlight/marker light wiring (should have been fixed in recall)
Evaporator is suspect (more of a problem in 850s than 870s)
    Ignition switch failures sometimes reported
Window/door switches apparently suffer from occasional premature failure
    Occasional door panel delamination
