has anyone charged the battery in th car lately..is this a routine 850

I need to restore the full charge in my battery on a 850. If i take it to a mechanic, is there something i should be worried about before giving it to get the battery charged or should i just buy a charger and I can do it at home.

anything special with these cars while charging the battery in the car

Just a note about the lifespan of the OEM battery: It seems
to last about 3 years. If you are re-charging because the battery
is not holding a charge (and you drive it regularly) it might be
time for a new battery.

I don't see any need to use a charger if you drive the car at
least twice a week.

... battery in th car ... not a great idea

Why does your battery need a charge? If your car cannot keep it up, I think that you are headed for woes.

As was mentioned, I think that you should disconnect one terminal before connecting a charger. It is possible to damage some of your car's expensive components with a rogue charger.

I like to fold up a paper towel lengthwise and lay it across the open battery caps to catch any acid that sprays out when bubbles burst as they surface during charging.

In my experience, if your battery is down on fluid and not fully charged, you might as well start saving for a new battery.

Try Battery Tender. They work great for charging batteries as well as for maintenance. I purchased two of these so that I can keep my convertibles charged through the winter months. The best price I found online was from Tucmoto.com ($40) for the Battery Tender 12V Plus version. For more info on this product you can go to BatteryTender.com.

I would disconect the neg side, open each cell cap and check the level of the acid(keep them open while charging the batt), and add electrolite(or distelled water)as needed because you will boil some away if the battery needs a charge bad. Be sure you have the security code for your radio.....you'll need it if power is interupted to the unit. connect the cables back up....apply some white litho greese to the terminals and your done.
Now if I was driving a 72 Nova.....chances are i would just open the caps and charge away!

Go to Walmart or Kmart and buy an inexpensive automatic battery "trickle charger" (low amperage). They're about $40 and it will safely charge your battery overnight. No need to take a car anywhere IF that's all you need done.
