Power test results S60 2001

Just to inform you.

A few days agoI had the car tested. Reason was that I had slight detonation under non-normal conditions last summer. It turned out to be the spark plugs. After changing the plugs it was practically free of detonation (EU RON 95). To be sure the dealership decided for a power test from which it turned out that everything is okay now.

The results are as follows (from the graph):

- Specification: 102.5 kW (=139.3 HP)
- Measured: 104 KW @5170 rpm
- Measured at wheels: 82 KW
- Power loss: 22 kW

Conditions:
RON 95 fuel
Air temperature 30 deg C
Oil temperature 80 deg C.

Notes made by the specialists:
- short detonation could only be enforced at full throttle from 1000 rpm in 3rd gear. This is outside the bandwidth of the correction loop with the detonation sensors (retardation of ignition, etc)and therefore not corrected (immediately).

What is also interesting to notice is that maximum power is reached at 5170 rpm. This is in agreement with the - limited- topspeed of 209 km/h on the radio display (223 km/h tacho)which I reached on the Autobahn.
However, the Volvo brochure reads that maximum power (140 HP) is reached at 4500 rpm. So, the latter is not the case.

Greetings,

Dutchman

Cool Dutchman, I remeber you were having problems with that a year ago.

I have to do plugs in my car, I don't care what people say about them lasting more than 20k, I drive my car hard and it's lost 5 tenths at the track, in COLDER weather!

    :(

      Thanks for your reply Doug!

How often do you change spark plugs? Have you ever heard about a "bad set"? I really hope that I had a bad set in the beginning and that the plugs were the real origin (after > 20k kms) of the detonation.

      Greetings,

      Dutch

Well, being that most of my cars have always been of the "make sure you can get to the plugs easily, you'll be changing them often type" fairly often. My s60 really has fallen on its face the last 5k miles or so. I've been told that they should last more than 20k but w/ a turbo, and running pee for fuel most of the time I think its time.

Just did them in my gf's parents C70 lpt w/ 20k miles and it was night and day.

Haven't had to much in the ways of bad sets though. You never know though, one that isn't gapped right could do that.

Now, if I could just spare some money from my 242ti project and actually by sparkplugs for the S60!!! LOL
