Heat not hot on '96 850 GLT 850 1996

Having a problem with my '96 850 GLT.
The heat doesn't blow very hot. It's better if I'm sitting in traffic and the car runs a little warmer but on the highway and byways it's just adequate. And that's with the thermostat set to highest setting. Also it feels like cold air coming through floor vents when I have it set to come out of top vents.
My REC and AC lights blink for the 20 sec to tell me there's somehting wrong but hoping someone out there knows what the problem is. Can you check the codes on a '96 like you can on the '95 and before?

the temp gauge should be in the mid range all the time, even on a very cold day, if not thermostat

    not to expensive

It's almost certain that your engine coolant thermostat has failed in the open position. This is a common failure at 50-70k miles. It's also an easy and inexpensive thing to fix.
