where is 850 A/T Reverse switch 850 1995

The reverse-backup lights have gone from working intermittently to not working at all. I removed the center console and did not find any type of switch that engages when reverse is selected. Must be somewhere else. Anyone know where?

where is 850 A/T Reverse switch 850 1995

It's part of the gear pos. switch on the gear selector shaft on top of the tranny.

In your opinion, would my problem indicate this switch is in need of replacement?

With the motor off, put the ignition sw in pos 4, and ratchet the gear lever end to end about twenty times. Then check on the reverse lights. If not, then it may be getting close to needing replacement.
