I am, AM talk radio'd to near death at this very minute.

The FM quit working about a year ago on my 1996 850, SC-815. Half the lights on the radio are out (left side), and it skips on just about every CD I put in. To be specific this radio sucks.

Are there replacements alternatives to the SC-815? Is there another radio that will fit the dash and look good, or am I stuck with my current problem child?

I saw a web site that sells these puppies, and it was $800+, what a bargin. I wouldn't mind if the darn thing worked.

If I have to keep it and get it repaired can someone let me know what it will cost me?

I replaced stock radio with base model Pioneer CD receiver, and put a storage pocket in space below. The audio quality is much better than the Volvo unit. You can get this done, installed, for less than $200 somewhere like Best Buy or Circuit City.

i changed mine with a 200 watt pioneer cassette unit and had a 6disc pioneer changer in the trunk. on the gap under the unit, i had a storage pocket with a flip cover installed. it looks very good and better yet, it sounds a lot better than the alpine (volvo) unit i took off plus all this for less than what i would have bought a replacement volvo unit

I am interested in purchasing it, or just the illumination LEDs.

Radio lights are not LEDs but microbulbs which you can buy from Radio Shack for about $1 each. They have a small plastic cover which provides the tint; the bulbs are clear.

If you decide to replace your radio with something other than a Volvo radio, please let me know. My Volvo radio works fine, but the lamps went out and, in the process of rebuilding them, I broke several of the lamp holders. I am looking for replacements which, apparently, can only be found in clapped-out units.

So, I'll buy the lamps, or the whole unit, from you, if it works out that way.
