V70 AWD jerking steering problem V70-XC70 1998

My wife tells me that she has noted occasionally that the steering on our '98 V70AWD, 61K miles, has felt like it "stops and then starts", or "jerks" when turning into a parking lot. It was easily felt by her as well as a passenger. She can tell me no more. I think I will drive the car for awhile now and see if I can feel the same thing. Any ideas on the common causes of this? How about the bevel gear issue? Steering rack? The power steering pump? I just replaced the serpentine belt a month ago. The steering stops are greased regularly and this problem doesn't seem to happen at the extremes of steering range.

At 61K, it could be a worn set of link rod ends (aka swaybar endlinks). Low cost repair, espicially if you're a DIY kinda guy,

I think I'll try to reply to my own post. How about this being a symptom of the TRACS system kicking in? It has only occured at slow turning speeds and my rires are pretty worn. Roads have winter sand on many spots too. Could it have sensed a slippage and applied the brake causing the sensation my wife described?
