New Volvo Driver 90k glt S70 1998

Glad I found this site.

Just a few quick questions...

1. The suspension seems a little rough around the edges, sort of like driving an old milk truck. Is this normal?

2. It seems when cold outside and stopped by a red light my car emits more white smoke than others. Is this ok?

3. It shifts from 1st to 2nd way more rough than the last two gears, ok?

4. Brakes scream like crazy with only light pedal pressure.

5. Steering wheel makes noises when i turn it more than 90 degrees. Can it be greased?

Other than these minor annoyances the car runs great, thanks for your input.

Jimmy

Bay13 is at: http://volvospeed.com/bay13.htm

The 70 series ride smoother. The 850s are harder riding. I guess
Volvo listened and softened up the suspension for the 70 series
(the 70 is a mid-life kicker for the 850 series introduced in MY 98).

When the tranny fluid was replaced on our 95 855 at 60K miles
it shifted like new (smoooooth). I was rather surprised at what a
difference that made.

hi jimmy:
1. yes it is normal. volvos are not cadillacs.
2. that's just condensation on cold mornings
3. try flushing your tranny fluid. maybe it has not been done yet. check out volvospeed.com, go to bay13 for a lot of useful info on upkeep and mods.
4. front or back? have you checked them if they needed replacing yet? if ok, try applying some sylglide to it
5. the steering stops have to be greased. again, pictures of location and how to's are on bay13.
regards
