first time owner questions...Spark Plugs/Maintenance 850 1995

I bought a volvo last week. It is a car I could not afford when it came out in the 90's. So i waited. Found one i liked(Paint code 418-11..a true "Brick'). Clean, fast(Computer-thingy says 25MPG!). 100 miles from the guy-i-bought-it-from's house the check engine lite came on. "Hello", i thought. Got into the little box with the jumper and reset it. "Talking Engine" beeped back error #436 on module next to windshield wiper reservoir(French word). Thanks Bay 13. OBD-II said PO133(slow first o2 sensor. Thanks AutoZone) Question(unrelated): What plug do I use for a Turbo engine B 5234. Manual says Champ "RC7GYC"...European plug(not available?) or Bosch FR 6 DC(can't find). Volvo dealer wanted to charge me $57.06 plus tax for his 5 gold-plated Volvo plugs(how economical). I think the non-turbo uses different plugs. (1)Anybody gotta cheap(reasonable) quality sure-fire solution?
(2)This car came record-less(not a scrap).I know the belts were both changed (upon purchase) as well as a new rear main seal(why?) and tranny fluid.I want to start with a clean slate. If you were me, What would you checklist look like?(Is there something in the archives for this?)
(3) Most of you seem to own 2 cars. This is my only car. Mistake? Keep the Maxima?
(4) Thanks for a great,active site...fascinating... and re-assuring. Carry on, people.

Welcome! Was tranny fluid flushed or was the just what's in the pan replaced? Check the color of the fluid. It should be pinkish in color. The torque rod bushing (top engine mount) often needs to be replaced. Check to see if yours is cracked. You may have an aftermarket poly bushing- they typically come in a funky blue or yellow color. You may also need to top up the AC refrigerant in the spring if the compressor is cycling rapidly. Many folks have posted of failed evaporator coils. Check to see if you have a pollen filter- it's on the pass. side under where windshield wiper is. The Haynes manual for the 850 has a pretty good section for regular maintenance.

OEM Turbo plugs are $28.49 from volvoparts.com (a volvo dealer).
Their are other online discounters, too. I've always used the
OEM and they last 30K and have not caused any problems.

Rear main seals fail fairly often. Most common in non-turbo engines
when the flame trap plugs (no flame trap on turbo motors).

I'd keep an eye on the O2 sensor -- it can affect milage and engine
    performance if it fails.

The owners manual has a pretty good checklist. One thing it recommends
is a brake fluid flush every two years. The fluid absorbs moisture
(by design) and this can shorten the life of the (expensive) ABS
components. I'd also chack the pads and rotors for wear. The
rotor has the minimum size stamped on it. I think Bay 13 has the
    numbers, too.

If you don't have the manual you can order the
    glove box documentation from http://www.volvotechinfo.com/.

This tool makes brake flush/bleeding easy: http://www.motiveproducts.com/

You might also consider alldatadiy.com. For $25/year they give
you the technical manuals and service bulletins. This has
proven worth the money for me.

    My wife has a 95 855 GLT and I purchased a 98 S70 T5M (so I voted
with my wallet) and I don't think you made a mistake at all.

      Ray,

Would you explain the relation between rear main seal failure and
the flame trap ? Any tip to extend life of that rear main seal?
I have a '96 with 65K on the clock and I dont loose any oil, not
even a drop. I'de like to keep it that way cuz a lot of $$$ for fix

      Thanx a lot pal
