how to get to the seat heat switches in the handbrake console 850 1994

Thanks to the great info on this site, i am one step closer to fixing my drivers side seat heater. It is getting cold in michigan.

My passenger side works fine. Today i switched the thermostats to test if that was my problem. It must be something else because the drivers side is still not working and the passenger side still is.

Hoping it is not the heating elements themselves - so i want to test the switches and clean them. Cleaning the switches on my 740 corrected the drivers side seat heater.

I can't figure out how to get into the console. Or does the switch just pop out? I pryed the cover under the handbrake expecting to find screws that would allow the whole thing to pop out like in my 740. no luck.

any help would be appreciated.

You can pry it with a screwdriver as instructed on this site but I would be very careful. It's very easy to scratch or marr the console. I've found a much easier way to do it, especially since you mention it is the drivers side heater switch. Pry up the cover under the handbrake as you've already done. Then using a finger, pry up the econ/sport switch from below through the handbrake cover hole. Once you pry up the econ/sport switch just use your finger again, this time through the econ/sport switch hole and pry up the seat heater switch from below. Very easy and nothing gets scratched or damaged. Hope this helps. Happy holidays.

pulled them out of the back of the seat foam as per instructions on this site. Unplugged them and plugged back in other seats.

There are several screws used to hold the center console in place. Two are located under the center armrest. There is a small cover that covers them. The next two are by the lighter and are facing the dash. You need to remove the ashtray to ease removal. After theses screws are removed, take the plastic tray out for coins and glasses under the ashtray. Now, under the ashtray area there are two more screws located under the wiring leading to the center console. Remove these screws, and the center console should lift up from the back and pull out towards the rear of the car. It will not travel to far due to wiring connections, but you should be able to access the switches.

The seat heat switches in the center console come out from above. You have to use a very fine tip flat screwdriver to pry them out from above. The switches are a snap fit. I would pry with the screwdriver at the 12 and 6 oclock position on the side of the switch. It will come out. Do it carefully or you will leave pry marks in the plastic console.

I had a problem with my seat heater and I pulled out the thermostat and found a disconnected wire at the thermostat. I guess thats not your problem though. Good luck.
