Hi Group:

Some time ago there was a posting about replacing a rusty 850 Turbo exhaust tip with one from a newer V70 (I think). I was just at the dealer, in my non-Volvo, and the parts guy said there isn't a replacement tip that will fit. I looked at the car when I got home, and it seems like just about anything should fit, as long as the diameter is correct. So, can anyone confirm exactly which tip fits? I like the later oval tip (chrome or stainless), which looks like it won't corrode as the original 850 Turbo tip did. Thanks in advancce.

Dean, I just checked my '99 V70awd, and it has the dual exhaust outlet system used on the late 2000 R model. They are slip-on with one bolt in the bottom and are angled cut and 3x3-1/2" opening with a rolled edge, S.S. They slip over a 2-1/2" dia. pipe. What is the 850 pipe dia. ? Tom

Thanks for the info. The pipe on our 850 Turbo is also 2.5" O.D., and the tip is just under 9" long. How does that length compare with the tip on your car?

Dean, I just measured the tips. The S.S. piece is over the outside of the steel tubing and welded and the bolt is at the 6 o'clock position near the end of the steel tubing. The SS portion is 4" long and is slash cut with rolled edge and the overall is 9".
The Dlr. can look under '9 V70 awd (which has one) or 2000 V70R awd (late in 2000) Both models list the same tip part #, except the "R" lists the qty. as 2. Looks like the part # is #9470988 "end pipe" Tom

I know for a fact that the stainless steel tip from an S70 will fit on a 850 Turbo. My OEM tip rusted off and my dealer put on the SS tip. Fits great, looks good and is holding up nicely.

I juat checked http://catalog.alloemvolvoparts.com/ and they show the same tailpipe for all the 850 and S70 Turbo's, describes as "rectangular". I also checked the pipe for a non-turbo S70, and it described that one as "round". Any further info you might have, as far as what year your pipe came from, or Turbo or non-turbo, would be helpful. The local dealer doesn't stock any exhaust pieces, andn won't even order ond for me without a part number. Thanks.

i bought a stainless steel with rolled edges and a resonator. it was a direct clamp on with no mods needed from pep boys for. i paid less than 50 bucks for it. cant remember exactly cause that was almost 2 years ago. the tip is still shiny and looking good.

When I bought my used '94 turbo the exhaust tip was rusted out and just hanging on the exhaust pipe. After going to the dealer and seeing how cheap the original replacement looked and the price I decided to go to a local muffler shop. They had a great selection of brushed stainless steal exhaust tips. I picked out a nice looking square tip with rounded corners and a rolled edge that suits the car. They also welded the tip on to a short pipe so I could clamp it unto the exhaust pipe with a muffler clamp at no extra charge. I've had this tip for over two years now and it still looks good.

I have an 850 turbo and agree with you.

TO be sure, just remove the existing tip and take the car by the dealer and see if the tip will fit or not.

It will or it won't .
