2001 V70 turn signal V70-XC70

My V70 left turn signal blink rate is about 1/sec and the right turn signal is about 3/sec. Any idea what may cause this? I thought it may be a bad bulb but before I go on a goose chase I thought I would ask. Thanks for your help!

Bob -

Bad bulb in the rear....or a failed contact in front.....I thought there was a recall 101 that applys to your car......no?

I can't believe that Volvo hasn't fixed this problem yet!? This was an issue with the 1998 model year...New bulb sockets finally solved the problem.

Doug mentioned the flasher problem as early as 1998.
My 1998 v70 started having erratic blinkrate problems
a few days ago. Now no flashing (turn signals & emergency)
at all (although the lights DO burn steady). I figured the
flasher must have gone bad and purchased another (aftermarket).
...think I can find whereto plug it in ? NO. So, either
someone sold me something that I can't use, or I just haven't
found where this little module (1x1x1 inch w/3 plugs) goes.

Have checked in the following locations for a similar module:
        * main and supplemental fuse box (both under hood, directly in
        front of driver)
        * underneath driver side dashboard (up & under steering wheel).

I have found no fewer than 6 similar-looking modules, but all
have at least 5 plugs and don't seem to be the right one. All
        (6) modules have a big J on them, an identifier of sorts ?

        Thank you in advance.

What about the flasher unit just above the ash tray. You can access it by removing the ash tray, and pushing it out from inside.

yes. ashtray. i saw the note after leaving mine, and yours confirms the
            problem & fix.

learned the value of this forum & site, and was reminded that the fun of driving my 5yearold is worth an occasional expensive part. ⏈, or 75 if you
like to spend more on the westside]. as stated previously, the job takes
            under 5 minutes.

initial recommendation from partsguy was wrong, but he corrected himself after
learing more. good diag step is to try emergency flashers, otherwise might
            suspect bulb sockets.

excellent results from first-time post. will browse around.
            Thanks!
