Just picked up a sheep skin seat cover (29.99$ at Costco!), looks like it will fit better if I remove the head restraint to install it. Nothing in the owner's manual or Haynes that I could find to help me with this. Is there a hidden button or switch that allows it to be removed? Thanks everyone.

it's already been said, but i was also under the impression that seat covers were a no-no (unless volvo approved)

Just A thought. I have been looking for covers for my 96 850. I have heard that if the side bags do go off you will basically become the meat between two slices of airbag. I was under the impression that the bag actually comes out of the side of the backrest, and covering the seat would direct the bag to go behind you not beside you.

If I am wrong, I have already found those seat covers @COSTCO, a steal.

If the car has side air bage.....I think I would stay away from seat covers, as the SRS does come out of the side of the seat back....unless you could have them "fixed up" so the side of the seat back where the SRS deploys could have a slit in it to let the SRS out.....no?

you have to push in on the back of the seat you will feel some detents that will allow you pull the head rest straight out while you push in on the back of the seat, may require a friend for help.

The seat cover fits OK, not custom but fine for my purposes. I still need to figure out where to hook the straps under the seat. My driver side leather seat is showing its age with some drying and cracking, and this seemed like an affordable alternative to reupholstering the seat. The car is an 850 wagon n/a with over 150k miles.
Regarding the side airbags, this is not an issue in the 94 as it doesn't have them. I'm not sure what year the side airbags were added, anybody know?

I got the same cheapo Costco sheepskins. I got the straps through by using a wire clothes hanger. It makes it a lot easier when you use the hook to pull the straps through. The strap hooks are supposed to hook onto each other. Be careful though because the straps break if you pull to hard.
