Interior Smell 850

Everytime the wife gets into our 93 850 Sedan she claims she smells thinner, like nail polish remover. Anyone had a similar condition? Might it be the R-134 AC fluid leaking out as I remember the 93s did not do well with the evaporators.

Interior Smell 850

Hi, I had an interior smell which I sorted out. During frosty weather my rear washer stopped working as the nozzle had frozen. However it still didn't work after the cold weather had gone. I then started to get a bad smell in the car. I should have twigged earlier as when I reversed and stopped the the car in the drive when I heard a sloshing sound. I though it was the petrol in the tank. I then would fill up the washer bottle and literally see the water drain away before my eyes.. I looked under the car expecting to see water dripping out...but nothing. I then looked further into the problem and then found out that a hose union in the rear of the car had come loose due to the back pressure from the frozen nozzle, which also then syphoned the water into the spare tyre well. The spare tyre cover would get wet and hence the bad smell. Hope that helps you out.

Another source for that is fungus ( yes, fungus) that grows in the air intake for the AC. I had that, took it to the dealer, and they sprayed something in the intake, and all was well. It was free.

Up by the upper left near the firewall, you will see a couple of torx
bolts, back them out, peel back the plastic cover this will show your ac/heat intake,

you will not bleave how much junk and rotted leave, pine needles get caught in there, cant beleave there is not filter for that or a sreen,

shop vac all that juck out of there, that can smell bad!!!

I think R134 is odorless.

Other possibilities include brake fluid/clutch fluid, gasoline and antifreeze.

The heat exchanger on the 850-70s will fail on occasion, fortunately it's easier to replace than the evaporator. Is there any sort of a slimy precipitate on the inside of your windows?

The plastic gas tanks also develop leaks, there were 2 tanks on the recycling skid the last time I visited my dealer.

Some interior smells due to bacteria/fungus in the cabin air duct system can be reduced by spraying Lysol (any fragrance of your choice) in the intakes you'll see located under the hood, in front of the windshield, on the right side. I think there are four. Have the heater fan on high, engine running, while you shoot a liberal amount in each.
