Factory installed CD changer 850 1993

Can anyone tell me the location of the factory (dealer?) installed CD changer in the '93 model? My son got a Alpine S630 for Christmas. We thought it would install in the glove box, but it doesn't fit. Where was the stanard install? (Had hoped the factory wiring was already run to the trunk, but can't locate any)

My 850 Turbo Wagon has had an alpine 611 changer under the Passenger seat (I use the freight compartment for bulky loads). It needed diverting the under-front-pass seat airvent to avoid heat on the changer. The alpine dealer knew where to get the adapter so the the SC-811 head handles all the controls just like the factory, but at less than half the price.

It was an SC-810 before core switch for repair resulted in update/upgrade. It worked with both in either event.

I recently had the same CD changer installed in my '97 850. They installed it in the trunk. Hard for me to describe the area, but when you open the trunk, it is on the driver's side, mounted just behind the rear speaker. The only hassle with this location is that when you raise the flap to get to your spare tire, the CD changer gets in the way so you can't fold the flap all the way down. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience: you have to kind of hold the flap up with your head as you remove the spare tire from the trunk.

They didn't come pre-wired back then and even if it did have the OEM DIN cord, it will only plug into the changer sold by the dealer (was part of the "big picture" to be sure that you bought their changer for $700).
Any aftermarket cd-changer will need an adaptor or specific cord to operate and will need its own remote to control it, not through the in-dash player like the factory unit does.

The original dealer installed changer mounted under the hatshelf on the passenger side. The wiring if installed, can be found on the left side of the car behind the trunk trim panel. It will consist of a single DIN cable. The changer got power by splicing a short harness into the power antenna conector.
