ETS light comes on. Dealer replaces throttle body and software S70

I have this problem at 36K miles. Have others had this problem? I hear it is common and Volvo has not issued a recall. Bill was $700 at dealer to repair it.

ETS light comes on. Dealer replaces throttle body and software S70 1999

My ETS light originally came on sporadically with severe drivability problems at about 51,000 miles. My "Check Engine" light also came on, and after much research through the Brickboard, I replaced my MAF sensor. This stopped the drivability problems and Check Engine light illumination, but now my ETS light is on all the time. I don't notice any problems, but can't use the cruise, since it is part of the electronic throttle module. I was considering the IPD ME7 upgrade, since I hear that that includes the fix, and only costs a little more than the $700 I would have to spend on fixing the system anyway. I now have 66,000 miles on my T5 manual.

Please explain how a software or performance upgrade can fix a broken throttle module. I'd like to know because I'm about to pay 700$ to get it changed.

We had exactly the same symptoms on an AWD S70 Auto. The ETS module had to be replaced at a cost of $900. Cured both the bank balance and the problem. Apparently this module is faulty and has very poor reliability. The module itself is about $600 -$700 the rest is labor. The ETS is inside the engine intake cover and not a job for a DIYer. Sorry for the bad news. If you check the archives here you will find the same problem mentioned multiple times.

David,
Lemme get this straight. You have having problems with your replacement ETM? If you are, and its been less than a year, you might be able to get a spare parts warranty on that part.
