Oil dip stick has a odd substance on it! 850

My friends 97' 850 GLT wagon has a creamy substance on the oil dip stick. In my opinion it looks like French Onion Dip. So what are the possiblities? A cracked head or seal? Is the color from a mix of the antifreeze slurping in? Thanks in advance.

Pull the engine and check for evidence of potato chips in the crankcase... may explain the Fr. onion dip.
    Or maybe not.

Yep, just normal condensation and I see that often in colder weather especially on cars that are driven for more short trip driving.

Don't worry about it, it's harmless.

The advice to "not worry about it" is ok as long as the cooling system isn't losing coolant--meaning the water in the oil is indeed just condensation. This has to be verified.

Condensation does certainly occur--it happens on my aircooled VW van.

My 850 turbo wagon had the same thing. I think it was just condensation mixed in with the oil. My wife drives the car and makes alot of short trips. After changing the oil and filter and making some long distance drives the oil looks fine. I've read from other people on this site that it's common and not to worry about it. Just do your regular oil changes.
