60K service - Northern Virginia 850 1997

I am in the Northern Virginia area, have a '97 850. The service advisor at Fairfax Volvo estimates the 60K service to cost around $1,200 - claims the timing belt has to be changed, etc. That is pretty steep, and I was wondering if anyone has gone to an independent repair shop for the 60K service, how much did it cost, and if they were happy with the service. Thanks.

    60K service - Northern Virginia S70 1998

I recently replaced the timing belt on mine (at 70K mark) at the DARCARS Volvo in Gaithersburg for about $381. I did all the other stuff myself (new serpentine, new plugs, brake pads, new rotor and distributor cap, etc.)

I have had excellent service at very reasonable prices by Ranjit Singh @Import Auto Service, Springfield, VA call him @ 703 569 2332 and discuss, He's a very informative and nice guy.

What did the 60K service cost, and did you get the timing belt replaced as well? Thanks!

I had 70K per recommendation: changed timing and serp. belt; plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor;throttle body cleaning; trans flush; coolant and brake flush; fuel filter for about $790 (no oil/filter or air filter change)

Also forgot to mention ISA gives first time customers a 10% not to exceed $50 discount on service.

The 60K does NOT include a t-belt unless you're requesting that too? The t-belt's normally replaced at 70K miles on your car.
At our dealership, a 60K service on your car is a 4 hour service and runs for about $400 (total) which includes a new serp belt (not t-belt).
Labor to replace a t-belt's about 3 hours and the part's about $40 if one wants it done early, most people don't. I have yet to see one break before its required mileage interval so we never try upselling that, no need.
For $1,200 was more than just a normal 60K service being quoted, like brakes, etc?

The $1200 quoted is for the standard 60K service, and replacement of the timing belt (no brakes, etc.). I was told that the belt needed to be replaced after 5 years or 60K miles, and in my case car will be 6 years, and has reached 60K miles. Is your dealership in No. VA? If so, I'll be coming there!

Many miles from VA but perhaps the 6 yr old T-belt should be considered? Still costly at $1200 IMO.
Check you service/maintenance book on the t-belts time interval.
