Adding a CD player into the 1993 850 850 1993

I want to add a CD player (single or changer, don't really care as long as I can play CDs instead of cassettes). When I went looking at CD players, they are all 4-speaker. The sales person said they could install one in the car but would have to sacrifice 4 of the 8 speakers in the car. I don't want to do that.

What are other options, other than going for the Volvo OEM version that costs a whopping $USD700 or so!?

Anyone know a manufacturer who makes an 8-speaker CD player?

Thanks.
Mark

    Adding a CD player into the 1993 850--- Go Ebay 850 1993

I wanted the same thing. I bought an original Volvo Premium sound with single CD player and cassette for my volvo 850. Took literally 5 minutes to swap out the old one.

Cost: $200 on ebay. I see them on there alot.

Plus the sound improved alot. I think the entire radio/cd etc is much much better.

You say that you see them a lot on ebay. I did a search once and got "no listings found." Obviously I'm not typing in the right search term.

What part of ebay do you look in and what do you search for?

      Thanks for the advice.

Any half-way decent modern day aftermarket indash cd player can handle your stock 8 speakers. That salesguy's an idiot (sorry but true).
You can make an aftermarket player sound even FAR better by adding an amp, sub amp and subwoofer, then replace the speakers with better speakers but most people probably won't want to do all that themselves.
I do stuff like that with all my cars as that's the only time I really listen to cds (and now XM radio too, a great option btw). I do it myself but it can take time and patience to get it perfect (not including $$$) but to me, it's worth it as once done, it'll sound better than ANY home system.
The best place to get good deals on auto stereo players, etc is via retailers on Ebay. Once you find what you want at a place like Best Buy, Circuit City or Crutchfield, do a search on the same thing at Ebay and you'll be amazed. Just buy from a retailer with good ratings to be safe.
If you'ld rather not install it yourself, any car audio place like BB, etc can do that too.

Thanks for the confirmation, Ron. I thought the salesman was not working hard enough on the sale (which was strange, since that's his job), but I'm not an auto audiophile so I didn't know better.

I'll do as you said by looking for what I want and getting it at ebay or at least on sale and then finding a good car stereo installation place nearby.

Thanks for giving me hope again! I miss my CDs.

If you were at Bestbuy, they aren't commision and most a teenagers so they don't really care if you buy anything there or not, it's "just a job" to them. I originally looked their to get ideas, then found the deck I wanted listed at Crutchfields site but BB didn't sell that one, just one similar but $200 more with nothing more but added gadgetry. A BB salesguy even suggested going to Ebay if I didn't want/need BBs 4 yr warranty (which I didn't).
